National Poet’s birth anniversary celebration at Shilpakala Academy

Marking the 111th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) arranged a three daylong celebration, starting from May 25, at National Theatre Hall.
Solo and group renditions, recitations and a dance-drama titled “Badol O Borishoney,” featuring noted artistes and cultural groups, marked the second day's programme on May 26.
The renditions were a treat for connoisseurs of classical music, as the highpoint of Nazrul compositions is the blossoming of various ragas. Nazrul not only excelled in incorporating ragas in his compositions, he even created some raga and taal -- a unique feat in Bengali music.
Based on Raga Patdwip, Chhayanaut teacher Priyanka Gope moved the audience with her soulful rendition of “Prothom Prodip Jalo”. Nasima Shaheen, also a teacher of Chhayanaut, performed “Sha(n)jher Pakhira Phirilo Kulaye,” based on Raga Yaman.
Another Chhayanaut teacher Bizon Chandra Mistry sang “Amar Apnar Cheye Apon Jey Jon” based on Misra Raga. Salok Hossain presented “Rinik Jhinik Payela,” based on Raga Chhayanaut.
Artistes of Chhayanaut performed a choral number “Mor ghum O ghorey eley manohor” footed on a romantic raaga “Bhairabi” while artistes of Nibedon rendered a choral dhrupad genre “Mago amrito piyashi chito.”
Renowned artiste Sujit Mostafa rendered a ghazal, “Cheona Shunoyona” and Kalpana Anam sang “Thir Hoye Tui Bosh Dekhi Ma,” a Shyama Sangeet.
Majumdar Biplob recited “Aguner Phulki Chhutey” at the event. Eminent reciter Bhashwar Bandyopadhyay also performed on the occasion.
The programme started with a group performance by artistes of Dolonchapa. Another chorus, “Jago Nari Jago,” by artistes of Dharmorajik Shilpigoshthi followed.
Seasoned singers Sumon Chowdhury, Dalia Nawsheen, Bulbul Moholanabish were among others to perform at the event.
Choreographed by Sohel Rahman, artistes of Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts (BAFA) staged the dance-drama “Badol O Borishoney” at the programme. Sohel Rahman and Chandni donned the lead roles in the dance-drama.
The programme was directed by RA Mahmud Selim, director of Music and Dance Centre of BSA.
